Frugal
adj. 1. Practicing or marked by economy. 2. Costing little; inexpensive.
My husband prefers to call me cheap. But cheap has a negative connotation, I like to think I'm economical, reasonable, careful, smart, or conservative.
It's easy to spend money, it's saving money that's tricky. I like to pretend the savings account is a black hole. Once money is deposited, I pretend it's gone forever.
My husband views our savings account differently. It's a money tree planted in the backyard that's attached conveniently to is ATM card.
The fact is...I'm the saver, he's the spender. It's proof that opposites attract. While he's content to squander away every last dime in his pocket, it's my job to minimize the number of dimes he has left to spend.

Funny stuff! I can relate. It's opposite with my husband and I, I spend and he saves. I hate to imagine what it would be like if we were both spenders! I love your blog!
ReplyDeleteI must have married your husband's brother because my husband and I have the exact same relationship. He spends and I save. I also prefer frugal as opposed to cheap. Sounds much more sophisticated

I find it easy to save money but very hard to spend it. I'm borderline cheap. And thankfully, so is my husband.
ReplyDeleteI was raised frugal - okay, CHEAP. My husband trained me to go for quality. Now he can't rein me in!
ReplyDeleteMy husband has been blessed with a wife who never shops. Just not interested in it..I would like to grow a money tree on our balcony. It doesn't have to produce $100 dollar bills, it can be 20's. So we can afford gas, and kids sports. :)

Unfortunately I am also a spender. I try to buy wisely though and love bargains. Tell me that is at least some sort of consolation? Right???
ReplyDeleteI don't remember the last time I bought something that WASN'T on the clearance rack. If it's not on sale, I don't need it until it is, and if it's gone before the sale happens, well, then I guess I didn't need it after all.
ReplyDeleteThis post reminds me of having watched the Learning Channel's "Extreme Couponers" for some reason. I guess it's because it's all about being frugal, spending to save money etc. If you haven't checked it out...I recommend it. This one lady saved like 99 percent on her purchases and walked away with over $600 in groceries for like $6.
ReplyDeleteI think everyones a bit like that. My dad's the frugal one and my mom's the spender. They're definitely opposites!
ReplyDeleteI am not a saver so you are my new hero. :)
ReplyDeleteI love that you did your E post on exercise - me too!
Hilarious! The same goes for my boyfriend and I. Good luck with the challenge!
ReplyDeletecan you ask where the money tree seeds are hiding?
ReplyDeleteOur husband's must be brothers.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain. We recently moved to Alaska and have been shopping in the free section on craigslist. Well my hubs found a HUGE tv...for free and it has worked fine. Well, we got our tax money back today...and guess what the free tv decided to do? Yea...it broke. It now sounds like there's a mouse working his little heart out to get it going to no avail...well I would rather not have a tv than spend the $200 he is going to on another HUGE tv.....really hunny?
ReplyDeleteCan't agree more!
ReplyDeleteNothing wrong with being frugal!
ReplyDeleteSaving is not easy for me. I can't even balance my checkbook!
I think no matter where I put my money, it's gone forever!
ReplyDeleteMy husband hates how much I spend on fashion magazines and books and home decor items and well....everything, but then he'll go and spend $50 on a few grocery bags of junk food!!! Or $60.00 on take-out! That is NOT my idea of fast food!
