If There's Nothing Nice to Say, Say Something Else

When I'm out in public with my children, two things always happen.

With Rio strangers stop me and say, "Wow, he's full of energy.  You must be tired."

But their tone is saying, " Control you child.  And by the look like crap."

I respond with a smile, "Yes, he's all boy.  If I could bottle his energy I'd be rich. But he keeps me young."

What I'm really saying, "I get it, you don't like boys because your old and bitter."

From when Amaya was a baby strangers always stop me to ask, "Where did she get that beautiful red hair.  Is that her natural hair color."

Their tone is saying, "She obviously doesn't take after you, you must dye her hair for attention."

I respond with a smile, "Yup, it's the Irish in her. You can't get that color in a bottle."

I'm really saying, "Are you an idiot.  Of course it's her natural color. And don't waste your money, her color wouldn't look right on you."

If there's nothing nice to say, say something else!

  1. Random people approach me in the store all the time about my kids! I've always wondered what compels them to do so. LMAO!

  2. My girls both have naturally curly hair. When my oldest was a toddler, strangers would always ask me if it was natural. No, I perm my 2 yr-old's hair! Better yet, I use a curling iron on her every day! Seriously?

  3. Nice! I like your blogs. Keep up the good work

  4. You have beautiful children. I remember asking you about Amaya's hair color but I knew you didn't dye it. It's just stunning and I wanted to mention it. My friend Sara, however thought you had dyed it. Lol. She's a bit naive and airheaded apparently. Your Mom's reaction to her was classic and so blunt! Lol. Hope you and your family are having a fantastic holiday season! Have a Merry Christmas! :)

  5. Nikki:

A mother of five daughters here...I always loved it when daughter no.# 1 and 5 were referred to "cute little boys".

  6. I've been accused of being completely devoid of anything resembling diplomacy. I'd say what I was really thinking.

  7. Oh, some people! Why do they even open their mouths? I don't really do small talk with strangers. I'm always uncomfortable. Especially in elevators. I wish I could wear a sign that said, "don't talk to me!"
