Sick and Tired

February started just as pleasantly as January.  I'm being punished for skipping the flu shot.

Today I woke up feeling better but exhausted.  The cough that has moved in is keeping me up all night so during the day all I want to do is sleep.

Sleeping causes other problems.  I wake up to a puddle of wetness on my pillow and my sleeve with my hair plastered to the side of my face.  Even in sleep I'm aware of the torturous sore throat I have.  The drooling is completely involuntary.

It's Monday.  So imagine my excitement of sending the kids off to school.  First I drag Amaya out of bed by her ankles.

"Get up!"  I yell.  "You're going to be late."  This is due to me hitting  the snooze button repeatedly.

I go into Rio's room.  I try to shake him conscious.  He's burning up.

"Mom, my throat hurts,"  he complains.

I grab a flashlight to inspect his tonsils.  After all I am a throat expert.

"Uh-oh..."  I say.  "Looks like you're staying home."

Then I remember.  What about my sleep?  I'm devastated.

"You know if you stay home today, you're staying in bed?"

"I know."

"No video games, TV, or playing outside."

He was fine with that. So we slept all day.

The only thing worse than waking up on my own saturated pillowcase, is rolling over into his.

  6. Oh bless you. I hope you and son get well very soon. My husband had a really bad cough for more than a month, would you believe? Funny enough, the flu symptoms and terrible cough occurred after the flu shot. Now my son has a horrible cold that keeps him awake at night, arrrghh. I don't like being ill and anybody in the family. It must be awful for you. Hope you both feel better very soon.

  7. Your bedside table looks like mine! Not good. Stupid sickness. Two kids stayed home yesterday from school. One of the orginal stayed home today and a different kid stayed home with him, while the third felt a little better to go.

    Being sick sucks rocks.

I love the bubble wrap idea. Super cute.

  8. Well at least you both were sick and he agreed to sleep. I have to say I hate having a kid home sick when your mind is racing with things to get done and all you seem to get done is wait on the kid all day. Hope you both feel better.

Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving your sweet words. She had surgery today and it went well. She will know more on Thursday. I feel very hopeful. Thanks for the prayers and keep them going if you don't mind!

Now following you, I think we are quite the same. I read your about me and I agree that I am one that stands in the back of the PTA meetings also but for me its because I was late. Most of the time I am rolling my eyes too and thinking very loudly in my head but I'm an open book and hopefully you will continue to follow to find out. So if I got something to say well dammit I'm gonna say it!

  11. Thanks for stopping by my blog so I could find yours. TOOO FUNNY!! I love your pics. Our household is currently running a flu marathon to see who can stay sickest the longest. Twin #2 is winning by a day. The grand prize is a years supply of chapstick to put on his nose for the utter raw-ness. My orange juices shots followed by my tequila chasers seemed to help me tremendously so I'm out of the running. Hope you feel better soon.

  12. Being sick like that is no fun, but it does go away eventually. Flu shot? I've heard it's all a government plot to get us ready to willingly accept tracking chips to be injected into us all. I don't know -- I guess it's possible. I got my flu shot though and so far haven't been sick.

I've been feeling rough for a couple of weeks either on the verge of a cold/flu or aches and pains caused by my spine/bones so I can well commiserate. Thanks for dropping by my blog :O)

  16. I'm sorry you're both sick!

After getting it when my son was a baby, I've gotten it every year. It's too hard to care for children when I feel like I'm at death's door.

    Feel better!

  19. Nikki, I love your title picture! Let them be marshmellows for a bit. I'm tired of the tough customers I taught for 25 years. Of course, I taught high school. ; ) BTW, I followed you from your comment on my blog. Thanks for visiting.

  22. Poor thing. My son stayed home today sick. Over half the class tested positive for strep throat and flu. We already had the flu in our house. 42 days straight of illness in my house. Ugh. I hope you get lucky. BTW - LOVE the pics!!
