Date Night

Date night is detrimental to my health. Without it, I become one frantic momma on the edge. I took date night for granted before my children were born, but now, it's a crucial tool my husband uses to maintain my sanity.

A typical date night is the usual, dinner and a movie.

Dinner, because it's important I eat a meal once in awhile, free of hovering children waiting for the opportunity to put their fingers in my food.  Why do they have to touch my food?  I haven't the slightest clue.  They don't put their little fingers in my husband's food...ever.

A movie, because it's a luxury to sit and watch anything from start to finish without explaining what's happening, travel five times to the bathroom, or listen to Rio give us his play by play narration.

"Don't you feel guilty..." people ask,  "leaving your children so you can go out?"

My answer is always the same...HELL NO!

  1. Yup. Date night saves us. Right now my kids are all grown up and on their own. After they leave make sure you turn off your phone on date night.

  2. I LOVE date night! We have one every tuesday and even though we don't have kids I still enjoy it! I think tonight we might go see Diary of a Wimpy Kid or maybe just opt for a stay in date and rent Tangled. Either way, Date Nights Rock!

  5. I remember those days well. I thought when they grew up things would be better but now I go to bed before them, they leave home but have the boomerang gene. There is always one of them here, and again we are leaving the house to get the chance to spend time together:-)

  6. Maybe your husband threatens to bite their fingers if they touch his food! :)

I just don't want to have to get up a million times or say "please eat you food...come sit down and eat your food..." and end up having to force feed my 5 year old. Every meal!

So, when we have an "adult" meal it's so nice!

  9. Our date nights consist of a Netflix movie as Dreyer's butterfinger icecream. we don't have any babysitters up here yet so we do what we can. I am very much looking forward to the day when 1) we have a babysitter or 2) can leave them home alone. And I'm with you....my kids never bother with anyone elses food!

  10. Guess what?!!! I'm your 300th follower!!! Yay me! And you!

Anyway. Yes, you should have time just for you. It brings you back to your children recharged. If you give until you're empty, what do you have to offer then?

I read through your blog and I love your sense of humor :)

  11. Haha! Now that I'm in college my grandfather is living with my parents and they've had to re-establish date night. It's like living with a ten year old again, minus the sticking of fingers in food.

  12. Why do people ask such a stupid question. It is beyond me. Why should any mother....because that is who they are referring to...feel guilty about going out to dinner and a movie. Good for you.

  13. It seems that date night is easier talked about than accomplished for us. We have double trouble at our house 2 yr. old twin boys. So I know far to well about fingers in your food. And if they happen to like what is on their finger you can kiss your meal good bye. My wife is a stay at home mom with no escape. Date night gives her the escape and helps break up the week. I've been slacking on making date night happen your blog has reopened my eyes. Cheers to date night.

  14. Date night doesn't happen often enough for me. I love this idea of dinner and a movie. Simple works for me. We have to consciously make the decision to set time aside for ourselves as a couple. Life seems to be grabbing me by the horns instead of the other way around. Last weekend we had our first date night in over a year. It's bad, I know.

I came to your blog via the A-Z challenge and I'm glad I did. You are open and down to earth. I've decided to follow.
